HISTORY

The Arizona Memorial and the USS Missouri represent the bookends of WWII. The USS Arizona was 1 of 8 American Pennsylvania Class Battleships docked at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Fully manned at the time there were 1512 young men on board of which 1,177 men gave their life that Sunday morning when Japanese forces launched a surprise attack. The bombing of Pearl Harbor secured the United States entrance into WWII.

The United States fought campaigns in Europe and in the Pacific, and the allied forces secured victory after incredible amounts of courage, planning, sacrifice, and endurance. The surrender was signed on board the battleship USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay on September 2nd, 1945. The USS Missouri represents the conclusions of a conflict that cost the lives of nearly 69 million people world-wide.
